Born and raised in northern Indiana, Crescent took an
extended route to pursuing an acting career. She
caught the acting bug while pursuing her B.A. in Afro-
American Studies and Government at Harvard
University, however it was not until she finished law
school at the University of Pennsylvania and a short
stint in a corporate law firm in New York that she moved
to Los Angeles to pursue acting full time. The idea of
playing a lawyer on TV seemed far more appealing
than the real thing. She has provided memorable
performances in The Colored Museum, The Trial of
One Short Sighted Black Woman vs Mammy Louise
and Safreeta Mae, and the musical, L’il Abner. She
has starred in numerous independent films and had a
scene stealing cameo in the critically acclaimed feature
film Heights. Her motto: “Life is short, follow your
passion and have no regrets.”
Self-described as a true "Renaissance" woman, Tanya
Alexander has appeared in over two dozens plays, toured
Europe and Japan as a dancer/choreographer, held spoken
word events in New York and Los Angeles, directed several
plays, variety shows, benefits, fundraisers and showcases,
and is an accomplished writer. She has appeared on The
Shield, HBO's Lucky Louie, Def Comedy Jam, the feature film
Material Girls, The Wiz, Law & Order: SVU, Nuyorican Poets
Cafe, and many others. She has won two awards for Best
Choreography and an NAACP Theatre Award for Best
Production. She heads and owns SuperNova Production
Group, a community-based organization dedicated to creating
visual, performing and literary artworks that educate, influence
and inspire on a global scale. Tanya is very honored to be a
part of the Harlem's Night/Brown Betties family and lives by the
self-written credo: "Of the strong and trustworthy a champion
is found. My life, my way, unbound...
